Her unique character in the show 'Ugly Betty' and her following roles afterwards have made her a "role role model" for the young Hispanic women working in the entertainment industry, and Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis was awed by her performance in the same. Ferrera was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2007. Ferrera is both an advocate and a strong advocate for the Save the Children campaign. As part of her social work, she traveled to India to meet the children of sex workers and to raise awareness about sex trafficking.
