Her interest in acting was evident throughout her childhood and appeared in numerous school productions. Her debut film, "Real Women Have Curves" earned her fame. Although her appearance in "The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants' gained an increased amount of attention but she was also praised by critics when she played the lead character on the TV show 'Ugly and won several Best Actress Awards, including the Golden Globe Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Primetime Emmy Award. Her unique character in the show 'Ugly Betty' and her following roles afterwards have made her a "role role model" for the young Hispanic women working in the entertainment industry, and Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis was awed by her performance in the same. Ferrera was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2007. Ferrera is both an advocate and a strong advocate for the Save the Children campaign. As part of her social work, she traveled to India to meet the children of sex workers and to raise awareness about sex trafficking.
