In America in the beginning, the performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the prodigy child category. A child of Irish origins, who was surrounded her by talented parents and family members did this naturally. Maureen entered this loving haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club in Ireland and ran a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons placed second from a household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing tough sporting games. Her natural ability to perform was a perfect complement to her interest in sports. The fact that she was awarded nearly all Feis prizes for her own country's drama and theatre performances proved the fact that she was a natural performer. At the age of 14 she enrolled in at the Abbey Theater to follow her dream and study the classical theater and operatic singing.
